Simplifying surds

A square cut into equal squares first, so √12 = 2√3, then the largest square factor and what is left: √72 = √36 × √2. Then a number in front, adding surds, multiplying surds and the side of a square from its area.

A free GCSE Higher number lesson on simplifying surds, spec code N8. It has a lesson deck to teach from with a visualiser, a worksheet with answers, a puzzle, an exit ticket, an end of unit test and a method video.
