Algebraic proof

Rows of squares first: move one square from the longest row to the shortest and the rows are equal. Then write the numbers using n, collect like terms and factorise so the multiple can be seen. Sums of consecutive, odd and even numbers first, then expanding brackets, ending with odd numbers written as 2n + 1.

A free GCSE Higher algebra lesson on algebraic proof, spec code A6. It has a lesson deck to teach from with a visualiser, a worksheet with answers, an exit ticket and an end of unit test.
