Adding and subtracting algebraic fractions

Two bars of length x cut into thirds and quarters, then both into twelfths, before the frame. Number denominators first, with a box for each multiplier, so it feels like adding ordinary fractions. Then denominators like x + 1 and x + 2 in the same frame: multiply each fraction by the other bottom, add the tops, expand and collect.

A free GCSE Higher algebra lesson on adding and subtracting algebraic fractions, spec code A4. It has a lesson deck to teach from with a visualiser, a worksheet with answers, an exit ticket and an end of unit test.
