Multiplying decimals

A hundred square shows 0.7 × 0.4 as 28 small squares. Then each decimal is written as a whole number divided by 10, 100 or 1000, so 0.6 × 0.04 = 6 ÷ 10 × 4 ÷ 100 = 24 ÷ 1000 = 0.024. Includes answers like 0.040 that drop to 0.04.

A free key stage 3 and GCSE Foundation number lesson on multiplying decimals, spec code N2. It has a lesson deck to teach from with a visualiser, a worksheet with answers, a puzzle, an exit ticket and an end of unit test.
